"Just because no one else can heal or do your inner work for you doesn't mean you can, should, or need to do it alone."

WHAT TO EXPECT

In our sessions, we create a warm, accepting space where you’re comfortable being yourself, sharing what you’re struggling with the most and a vision of how you want to feel. We believe that finding the right therapist for you is essential, as this relationship creates the foundation for healing and growth to occur. In working together, we’ll uncover behaviour patterns, beliefs and perspectives that will help build your self-awareness and manage the challenges that are holding you back.

Through a mix of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based therapy (MBCT), and a person-centred approach, we will uncover the sources of your suffering and address them in a holistic way. In your healing journey, we’ll identify your strengths, help you embrace your uniqueness and build confidence so that you can build your desired life on your timeline.

Whether it’s anxiety, career concerns, relationship issues or grief, processing difficult times without support can leave us feeling hopeless and isolated. You are deserving of acceptance and belonging.

Connecting to your strengths can help you achieve meaning and happiness.

Whether it’s bullying, self-esteem issues, behavioural challenges or emotional dysregulation, your child’s mental health can affect the whole family. They often don’t have the tools to cope with all of life’s big moments and parenting classes don’t always come with an instruction manual.

We understand how painful it can be to witness your children struggle with mental health issues and not know how to help them. As parents, you have your fair share of life’s challenges, and these are often put on hold while trying to support your child. This can end up negatively impacting relationships, friendships and your career.

We’re here to help you and your child.

THERAPY FOR YOUTH

Our therapists have the skills and the passion to build strong relationships with their clients while equipping them with all the right tools to navigate what life is throwing their way.

In therapy, adolescents get to know themselves and understand what their needs, their interests and their values are, all essential factors to get through their developmental years.

Through a supportive therapeutic relationship and strategies tailored to the client, therapy provides a comfortable setting for your adolescent to develop better relationships with family and friends, explore their interests, strengthen their emotional well-being, and achieve success, however they define it.

Our therapists specialize in assessing and treating pediatric concerns so that your child can get back to being a teenager, and you can get back to enjoying your child!

In meeting with one of our experienced and compassionate youth therapists, your adolescent is adding a coach to their corner.

Frequently Asked Questions

Psychotherapy can help support you in many different ways.

  • Do you feel anxious or depressed?
  • Are you grieving a loved one?
  • Do you often feel overwhelmed by what life is throwing at you?
  • Have you undergone a significant life change, such as a divorce?
  • Have you experienced something traumatic and can’t stop thinking about it?
  • Are you struggling to maintain healthy relationships?
  • Would you like to know yourself better?

We can help. At its core, psychotherapy offers you the tools to understand yourself better, and cope with life's challenges through a variety of techniques such as somatic approaches, mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy, and many more.

HIDE

We offer virtual sessions year-round. Sessions will be done over video chat through the secure Jane App. Online psychotherapy sessions are typically 50-55 minutes long (depending on the therapist).

As a clinic, we also have an eco-therapy focus. By definition, eco-therapy is a style of psychotherapy that rests on the idea that people have a deep connection to their environment and to the earth itself.

During the summer months, certain therapists offer in-person therapy sessions at our outdoor space, Willow Grove. If this option interests you or you would like to learn more, you can inquire which therapists offer outdoor therapy sessions here.

Therapy may be right for you if you're looking to improve your mental health and well-being. Our therapists specialize in working with individuals dealing with several different issues such as anxiety, depression, behavioral issues, trauma, school issues, career concerns, chronic pain, grief, infertility, family & relationship issues, and spirituality.

Our therapy is not the right solution for you if any of the following is true:
  • You are in an urgent crisis or an emergency situation
  • You are seeking a psychological assessment or medical intervention (medication)
  • You are under the age of 15 and are seeking therapy (our therapists currently see teens ages 15+)
  • You aren’t interested in discussing your experiences in depth. Talk therapy isn’t for everyone, and that’s ok! There are other healing modalities out there that don’t involve talking (acupuncture, reiki, etc)

HIDE

We currently have three kind and open-minded psychotherapists named Lauren, Fotini and Susie. For more information about each of us, please check out our bios here.

Typically, you do not need a referral from a clinician to see a psychotherapist. However, if you are claiming sessions through your insurance, some plans require a physician’s referral, so it is advised that you check with your insurance plan before beginning sessions.

After we receive your inquiry via email, our administrative staff will reach out to you within 24-48 hours. If you haven’t already decided on a therapist, our administrative staff will suggest a therapist based on your needs and preferences. Once we have found a match, you will receive an email with dates and times the therapist is available for a free 15-minute phone consultation. After you have completed your consultation, if you believe it's a good fit and would like to continue with regular sessions, your therapist will book you in for a full session on a time and date that is convenient for you.

Note: Every therapist has a different approach and focus, if you complete a consultation and believe that it's not the right fit for you, you can always request to speak with a different therapist. As a clinic, we keep your best interest in mind and know the importance of having someone who can help you reach the goals you are looking to achieve while in therapy.

Insurance coverage depends on your insurance provider. Some insurance companies will not fund sessions with psychotherapists in the qualifying stage. Every company is different. We invite you to check with your insurance companies to confirm what your coverage is. You can ask them if your coverage funds psychotherapy services offered by registered psychotherapists (RPs), or registered psychotherapists-qualifying (RPQs).

Some of our therapists now offer direct billing for Blue Cross Medavie. For all other insurance providers, clients pay out of pocket and can get reimbursed by submitting the official receipt to their insurance company.

We require 24 hours notice prior to cancelling a session. In the event that this isn’t done, you will be responsible for paying the full amount of your session. We kindly ask that you provide 24 hours' notice by contacting us via email (laurenwallis.psychotherapy@gmail.com).

Providing less than 24 hours’ notice, or missing a session without notice, will result in the charge of a full session fee.

A 50% fee will apply if you cancel with less than one week’s notice but more than 24 hours. If, however, the session can be rescheduled to a mutually convenient time within 10 days, this fee will be waived.

Our clinic does not have a direct telephone line, therefore, we cannot accept incoming calls.

If you have any questions regarding our services, would like to book a consultation, or have general inquiries, you can email us at laurenwallis.psychotherapy@gmail.com. We do our best to return your email within 24- 48 hours.
